"" Mercosil, a new aluminum-silicon alloy developed by Mercury Marine, has reached a new commercial milestone. The Aluminum Association has granted Mercosil the designation of 391 for diecast, A391 for permanent mold, and B391 for sand casting or lost foam.
Mercosil is functionally unique, as compared to three other hypereutectic aluminum-silicon alloys (390, 392, and 393). It is the only alloy in the group that exhibits high corrosion resistance, enhances ductility by providing for shape control of the iron phases in A391, and exhibits increased wear resistance. The wear resistance is due to Mercosil's composition, which contains 40% more hard silicon particles than 390 ""
